Results of MOP trial published
Much excitement with the publication of a placebo-controlled trial of metformin in obese non-diabetic pregnant women. Dr Steve Hyer was a co-investigator and helped design the trial which was a collaboration between Epsom & St Helier University hospitals, Kings College hospital and Medway Maritime Hospital. The study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that metformin reduced gestational weight gain and the incidence of preeclampsia but didn’t decrease neonatal birth weight.
